Hankelow is a small, predominantly rural parish in Cheshire East, a few miles east of Nantwich and within easy reach of Crewe. Set on the gentle slopes of the South Cheshire Plain, it is characterised by rolling arable fields, hedgerows and a scattering of traditional red-brick farmhouses and a country house or two; the historic layout and a number of listed buildings give the area a quietly historic feel without being urbanised.
The local economy remains largely agricultural, though many residents commute to nearby towns. Social life is low-key and community-focused, with a small village core, lanes and public footpaths that make it popular with walkers and people seeking the quieter side of Cheshire. Conservation of farmland habitats and the character of the built environment are priorities for the local community.
