Winsford is a market town in the unitary authority of Cheshire West and Chester, in England, set on the banks of the River Weaver. The town is notable for the Winsford Flashes, a series of freshwater lakes created by historic salt‑working subsidence that now form important wetland and leisure areas popular with birdwatchers and walkers.
Historically the local economy was dominated by salt extraction and related industries, and a substantial rock‑salt mine still lies beneath the town, reflecting that industrial heritage. Today Winsford combines post‑war and newer housing, town‑centre redevelopment and commuter links to larger centres such as Chester and Manchester, while retaining community amenities and pockets of industrial employment.
