Enfield is a suburban town in the London Borough of Enfield in north London, historically part of Middlesex until 1965. It sits between leafy open spaces such as Enfield Chase and Trent Park, with the New River and Myddelton House Gardens adding attractive waterways and gardens that contrast with the busy high street around Enfield Town.
Enfield has a mixed history and economy: it grew around market and manufacturing activities (notably the Royal Small Arms works at Enfield Lock) and today combines retail and light industry with many commuters travelling into central London. The borough is socially and culturally diverse, with local markets, community arts in venues such as the Dugdale Centre and historic houses like Forty Hall giving it a strong local identity set against the backdrop of the Lee Valley green corridor.
