Greenwich is a borough in southeast London, England, straddling a prominent bend in the River Thames. It is famous for its maritime history and for being the home of the Royal Observatory, where the Prime Meridian and Greenwich Mean Time originate, and the cluster of historic buildings that make up Maritime Greenwich - a UNESCO World Heritage Site that includes the Old Royal Naval College, the Cutty Sark and the National Maritime Museum. The borough also retains large green spaces such as Greenwich Park with panoramic views over the river and the City of London.
Today Greenwich mixes tourism and heritage with active regeneration: the riverside Greenwich Peninsula hosts The O2 arena and new residential and tech developments, while across the river sits the financial district of Canary Wharf. Local culture is buoyed by Greenwich Market, the University of Greenwich and Trinity Laban conservatoire, and the area is well connected by rail, DLR and river services, making it both a visitor hotspot and a diverse, evolving community.
