Ribchester is a compact village in the Ribble Valley district of Lancashire, England, sitting on the north bank of the River Ribble. It is best known for the remains of the Roman fort Bremetennacum and the local Roman museum, which houses finds such as the famous Ribchester helmet and gives the village a strong archaeological identity.
Today Ribchester feels quintessentially rural, with agriculture, equestrian activity and small independent shops and pubs forming the economic backbone, while walkers and history enthusiasts pass through en route to the nearby countryside. Community life is lively for a village of its size, centred on the church, village hall, cricket club and occasional local events that celebrate its long history.
