Sleights is a small village in North Yorkshire, about four miles south‑west of Whitby in the Esk Valley. It sits beside the River Esk, alongside the A169, and is served by the Esk Valley Line at Sleights station; the railway and its Victorian viaduct are a notable local feature.
Historically the valley supported small mills and rural trades, and today the local economy mixes agriculture, commuter households and tourism from walkers and visitors to the coast and the North York Moors. The village keeps a strong community feel with a village hall, pub and active local groups, preserving much of its traditional stone-built character while serving as a handy base for exploring the surrounding countryside.
