Birch is a small residential district on the eastern edge of Rochdale in the Metropolitan Borough of Rochdale, Greater Manchester, England. It sits close to the town centre and the rolling foothills of the Pennines, with a mix of older terraced streets and post‑war housing and convenient road links to the M62 and nearby Manchester.
Like much of the wider borough, Birch reflects the region’s industrial past - textile working and the cooperative movement are part of local identity - but today is largely a residential community with local shops, schools and community centres. Many residents commute to neighbouring towns and cities, while borough‑wide regeneration and local green spaces help shape the area’s social and economic life.
