Crawley in West Sussex is a large post‑war New Town roughly 28 miles south of London, set immediately beside Gatwick Airport. Originally a medieval market settlement, it was designated a New Town after the Second World War and today mixes older lanes with a planned grid of neighbourhoods and sizeable green spaces such as Tilgate Park.
Economically Crawley is a regional employment hub - the Manor Royal business district, airport services, logistics and light industry are important local employers - while social life revolves around a diverse commuter population, ongoing town‑centre regeneration and cultural venues like The Hawth theatre. Good rail and road links keep it closely connected to the wider south‑east.
