Worthing is a seaside town on the south coast of England, in the county of West Sussex, sitting on the English Channel between Brighton and Littlehampton. It has a long promenade and a Victorian pier, and lies close to the rolling chalk hills of the South Downs, with the prehistoric hillfort of Cissbury Ring overlooking the town from the downs above.
Once a small fishing and market settlement that expanded as a 19th‑century seaside resort, Worthing still shows Regency and Victorian architecture and hosts a lively arts scene including theatres and local festivals. The economy mixes tourism, retail and services, many people commute by road and rail (the A27 and regular services to Brighton and London), and the town’s relatively mild climate makes it popular with retirees and families.
