Falkirk sits in central Scotland roughly halfway between Edinburgh and Glasgow, in the low-lying Forth Valley where the River Carron runs through. It’s best known for striking engineering and public-art landmarks such as the Falkirk Wheel, the rotating boat lift that links the Forth and Clyde Canal with the Union Canal, and the large-scale sculptures at The Helix.
The town has deep historic roots - the line of the Antonine Wall runs nearby and the area was the scene of battles in 1298 and on Falkirk Muir in 1746 - while its economy moved from heavy industry and ironworks into light manufacturing, retail and commuter services with good links via the M9.
