Brae

Brae is a small village on the north of the Mainland in the Shetland Islands, Scotland, set amid dramatic coastal voes, moorland and sea cliffs that characterise much of the island landscape.

Historically centred on fishing and crofting, the village was transformed by the nearby Sullom Voe oil terminal which brought jobs, housing and improved services; today Brae combines local shops, schools and leisure facilities with aquaculture, tourism and a strong community life shaped by Norse heritage, knitting traditions and regular local events.
