Primrose Hill is a compact, largely residential ward in the London Borough of Camden, sitting just north of Regent's Park and offering one of the city's best skyline views from the grassy ridge. The area combines a village-like high street of cafés and boutiques with well-preserved Victorian and Georgian terraces and a number of conservation-designated streets, which helps explain its reputation and relatively high property values compared with many other parts of London.
Culturally the ward has long attracted writers, artists and musicians and retains a slightly bohemian feel alongside the more affluent residential community; it also benefits from close links to the lively scenes of Camden Town and the canal-side walks by Regent's Canal. Historically the neighbourhood grew up in the 19th century around the park and nearby rail and road links, and local campaigns and residents' associations remain active in preserving its character amid pressures from development and rising rents.
