Handforth is a suburban village and civil parish in Cheshire East, England, lying on the fringe of the Greater Manchester urban area. Historically a farming settlement, it expanded in the 19th and 20th centuries with the arrival of the railway and improved road links, becoming a popular commuter community with regular services into Manchester and convenient access to neighbouring towns such as Wilmslow and Stockport.
The local economy mixes retail - most notably the large Handforth Dean retail park - with small businesses, schools and light industry, while surrounding greenbelt countryside gives the place a semi-rural feel. Socially it retains an active village character with clubs and community groups, and it briefly entered the national spotlight in 2021 when a parish council meeting on Zoom went viral, underscoring the sometimes quirky side of local democracy.
