Styal is a small village in Cheshire East, England, tucked into the valley of the River Bollin just a few miles from Wilmslow and within commuting distance of Manchester. It is most famous for Quarry Bank Mill, an impressive 18th‑century cotton mill and model workers’ village created by Samuel Greg, now looked after by the National Trust and surrounded by woodlands and walking trails often described as Styal Country Park.
Historically the mill shaped the village’s economy and social life; today heritage tourism and preservation sit alongside everyday village life - the model cottages remain lived in - with the quieter but notable presence of HMP Styal nearby and good rail links via Styal railway station and proximity to Manchester Airport. The area combines industrial heritage with attractive countryside, making it popular for day visitors, walkers and commuters.
