Middlewich in Cheshire East, England is a small historic market town set where the River Dane runs through a landscape long associated with salt production. The town is one of the traditional "wich" salt towns with a history of brine extraction that goes back to Roman times, and you can still see traces of that industrial heritage around the centre.
Middlewich is also notable for its canal junction, where the Trent and Mersey Canal meets the Shropshire Union Canal, making it a lively spot for boating and an annual folk and boat festival. Today the local economy blends light industry and small businesses with commuter links via the M6, while the compact town centre and regular community events give it a strong local character.
