Ashton Hayes is a small rural village and civil parish in Cheshire West and Chester, England, set on the flat fields of the Cheshire Plain a few miles from Chester and within easy reach of Delamere Forest. It sits amid arable farmland and hedgerows, retaining a compact village centre and a landscape of lanes and farmsteads that reflect its long agricultural history.
The village is best known for its community-led "Going Carbon Neutral" initiative, launched in the mid-2000s, which brought national and international attention to local sustainability efforts such as home-energy improvements and tree planting. Economically it remains largely rural with many residents commuting to nearby towns, and socially it retains a strong community spirit centred on the village hall, parish activities and the continuity of local traditions; the name itself reflects its origins as an ash-tree settlement in Old English.
