Farndon sits on the banks of the River Dee in Cheshire West and Chester, directly opposite the Welsh market town of Holt. The ward combines a compact village core and surrounding farmland, with attractive riverside walks, floodplain meadows and plenty of birdlife that make it popular with walkers and wildlife-spotters; it also serves as a quiet commuter catchment for nearby Chester and Wrexham.
There’s a strong sense of history and community here: the village is noted for its medieval bridge and an historic parish church, and much of the centre sits within a conservation area with several listed buildings. The local economy is small-scale and mixed, focused on agriculture, local shops, pubs and B&Bs that cater for visitors, while village clubs and events contribute to a well-connected, active social life.
