Mary Tavy is a small village in West Devon, Devon, England, lying on the valley of the River Tavy at the western edge of Dartmoor. Its name reflects the dedication to St Mary and the river that runs through the settlement, and the surrounding moorland gives the village a distinctive upland character with easy access to walking and rural scenery.
The village has a strong mining heritage - copper and arsenic working shaped the landscape in the 18th and 19th centuries and you can still see traces of old workings - while today the local economy is a mix of farming, tourism and people who commute to nearby towns such as Tavistock. Community life centres on the pub, village hall and church, and the area is popular with walkers and anyone wanting a quiet base close to Dartmoor.
