The ward of Central & West Bank sits at the heart of Widnes within the borough of Halton, occupying a riverside position on the northern bank of the River Mersey. It takes in parts of the town centre and the West Bank neighbourhood, with views across to Runcorn and the Silver Jubilee Bridge; the town’s industrial past is still evident in surviving dockside and chemical‑works sites and in pockets of Victorian terraces.
Today the area is a mixed urban neighbourhood of older terraces and newer housing, local shops, community facilities and riverside paths that have been focal points for regeneration and leisure. It retains a strong community‑minded character shaped by its industrial heritage, active local groups and sports clubs, and reasonable transport links by road and rail to neighbouring towns and Liverpool.
