Whiston is a large village and civil parish in the Metropolitan Borough of Knowsley, in Merseyside in the north‑west of England. It lies to the east of Liverpool and to the south‑west of St Helens, historically part of Lancashire, and its proximity to the M57 and M62 gives it good road links and a commuter character alongside areas of open countryside.
Once shaped by coal mining and local industry, the area has diversified and is probably best known locally for Whiston Hospital, a major NHS facility; there are also pockets of listed buildings, green space and an active community life with sports clubs and schools. Many residents travel into nearby urban centres for work, while the parish retains a village feel in parts and a sense of local identity within the wider borough.
