Cley-next-the-Sea is a small coastal village and civil parish on the north Norfolk coast in North Norfolk, Norfolk, England. Sited at the mouth of the River Glaven beside wide salt marshes and shingle beaches, it lies within the Norfolk Coast AONB and is instantly recognisable by the picture‑postcard silhouette of the red brick Cley Windmill.
Once a medieval trading port that gradually silted up, the village now lives largely off tourism, birdwatching and small-scale fishing, with a lively arts and café scene and regular visits from naturalists to the marshes and RSPB reserves. Historic buildings, a strong local conservation ethos and ongoing coastal management give the community a quietly resilient character, with social life that swells in summer but remains close‑knit year round.
