Stiffkey is a small coastal parish on the North Norfolk coast of Norfolk, centred on a village beside the tidal River Stiffkey. Its landscape is dominated by broad salt marshes and winding creeks that flood and drain with the tides, creating extensive mudflats and reedbeds that are important for waders and wildfowl; the marshes and foreshore draw birdwatchers, photographers and walkers to the area.
Inland the parish is a patchwork of arable fields and scattered cottages, with a small local community supported in part by seasonal tourism and traditional rural trades. There are clear maritime echoes in the place - historic boat use, shoreline defences and local lore about smuggling and fishing - and a compact village core with a historic church and vernacular buildings that reflect the long, quietly lived connection between the people and the sea.
