Clumber and Hardwick sits in the north of Bassetlaw, Nottinghamshire, England, and is largely rural, dominated by the sweeping historic landscape of Clumber Park. The estate’s ornamental lake, avenues of trees and woodland along the River Poulter reflect its past as the ducal seat of the Dukes of Newcastle; the great house was demolished in the 20th century but the chapel, walled garden and parkland survive and give the area strong heritage interest.
Today the area has a small, dispersed population and an economy shaped by agriculture and tourism - the National Trust park attracts walkers, cyclists and birdwatchers and hosts seasonal events and a visitor hub. Socially it feels more like an estate and farming community than a village, with a quiet, conservation-focused character and easy links into nearby market towns such as Worksop.
