Elkesley is a small village and civil parish in the district of Bassetlaw, in Nottinghamshire, England, sitting close to the A1 trunk road a few miles south of Retford. Its position on this main north–south route gives the village good commuter links to larger centres such as Doncaster and Sheffield, while the immediate surroundings remain characteristically rural with farmland, hedgerows and small pockets of woodland.
Historically the settlement grew as an agricultural community and as a stopping point on coaching routes; today it still has a close-knit village feel with a parish church, local pub and community activities centred on the village hall. The combination of old cottages and modest modern development, together with easy road access, makes Elkesley popular with people who want village life within reach of regional towns.
