Ollerton and Boughton sit in the north of the Newark and Sherwood district of Nottinghamshire, England, on the eastern edge of the famed Sherwood Forest. Boughton remains a traditional village with older stone buildings and a parish church, while Ollerton expanded as a 20th‑century coal‑mining town, giving the area a distinctive mix of rural charm and estate‑town housing.
The coal industry moulded much of the local economy and community life, and after the pits closed in the late 20th century the area has focused on regeneration with light industry, retail and good commuter links to Nottingham and Worksop. Local leisure facilities, community groups and events sustain a strong local identity, and proximity to ancient woodland and walking routes makes the place attractive to both residents and visitors interested in heritage and countryside pursuits.
