Marston is a mainly residential ward just east of Oxford city centre in Oxfordshire, characterised by a mix of Victorian terraces and mid-20th-century housing tucked beside the meadows and oxbow bends of the River Cherwell. Historically a separate village with a medieval parish church, St Nicholas, it was brought into the expanding city in the early 20th century; traces of its rural past survive in riverside green spaces and the network of cycle and footpaths that link to neighbouring suburbs such as New Marston and Summertown.
Today the area has a strong community feel with local shops, pubs, primary schools and community groups, while many residents work at nearby university departments, hospitals and small businesses in and around Oxford. Good bus and cycle connections make it popular with families and professionals, and the riverside setting supports leisure activities from walking and punting on the River Cherwell to seasonal village events that keep a sense of local identity.
