Wardle is a small village in the Metropolitan Borough of Rochdale, in Greater Manchester, perched on the edge of the South Pennines. Its elevated, exposed position gives sweeping views over surrounding moorland and valleys, and the village still feels distinctly rural with stone cottages, narrow lanes and a small village centre.
Historically tied to local quarrying and the textile economy of the Pennines, many former industrial buildings and farmsteads have been absorbed into modern village life. Today Wardle is popular with walkers and cyclists, has a handful of shops and pubs and a keen local community, so it combines an outsized countryside character with convenient access to the towns and transport links of the wider borough.
