Whiston is a small village in the Metropolitan Borough of Rotherham, in South Yorkshire, England. Historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, it lies within easy reach of Rotherham town centre and the city of Sheffield, combining a rural village feel with reasonable links into the wider South Yorkshire conurbation.
Traditionally agricultural, the village - like much of the area - was later shaped by nearby coal mining and the steel industry, but today it is characterised by a close-knit community, local amenities and quiet streets with access to surrounding countryside and regional transport. Residents tend to value the village’s community events and easy proximity to Rotherham’s shops, parks and services while still enjoying a peaceful, semi-rural setting.
