Catcliffe is a small parish on the edge of Rotherham in South Yorkshire, sitting beside the River Rother and within easy reach of Sheffield. It feels much like a suburban village - largely residential with local shops, a primary school and community groups - but its riverside position and nearby green spaces give it a semi-rural character that attracts commuters and families.
What marks Catcliffe out is its industrial heritage: the surviving Grade I‑listed glass cone is a rare 18th/19th‑century survival and a tangible reminder of the area’s glassmaking past. Much of the old industrial landscape has given way to housing and leisure use, and places such as the Rother Valley Country Park close by have helped shift the local economy towards recreation and commuting while community and conservation interests keep the village’s historic fabric in focus.
