Pendlebury and Clifton are suburban communities in the City of Salford, in Greater Manchester, England. Both grew up around 19th‑ and early 20th‑century industry - coal, mills and rail - and much of their character still reflects that industrial past in rows of terraced houses and local churches; Pendlebury in particular is famous for its association with the artist L.S. Lowry, whose matchstick‑figure scenes drew on the local streets and factories.
Today the areas feel largely residential with pockets of green space and ongoing regeneration, especially where former industrial land has been reclaimed as parks and community amenities (for example Clifton is close to notable open spaces used for walking and wildlife). Good transport links make both places popular with commuters into Manchester, while local shops, community groups and heritage interest keep a strong sense of local identity amid economic change.
