Rainford is a large village in the Metropolitan Borough of St. Helens, in Merseyside and historically part of Lancashire, lying on the edge of agricultural countryside a short distance north‑east of St. Helens. The village grew up around local industries - notably coal mining and sandstone quarrying - and you can still spot older stone cottages and a traditional village centre; notable local landmarks include Rainford Hall and St Bartholomew's Church.
Today Rainford largely functions as a commuter and local service centre with small shops, pubs, sports clubs and active community groups, while its surrounding green spaces and country lanes are popular with walkers. Good road links make it convenient for travel to Liverpool and Manchester, so it combines a village feel with easy access to larger urban centres.
