Rainford is the northern ward of the Metropolitan Borough of St. Helens in Merseyside, centred on the large village of Rainford. It occupies higher ground on the edge of the urban area, with surrounding farmland and pockets of woodland that give the ward a semi-rural character and pleasant local countryside views.
Historically the area has roots in agriculture and the coal and light-industrial trades that shaped much of the borough, but today it reads more like a commuter and family-focused community with local shops, pubs, schools and active sports and volunteer groups. Small business and industrial estates on the outskirts provide local jobs, while good road links to Liverpool and Manchester and proximity to the West Lancashire plain mean it remains popular with people seeking a village feel close to larger centres.
