New Buildings is an electoral ward within Derry City and Strabane in Northern Ireland, located on the outskirts of Derry where suburban streets meet the surrounding countryside. Its position close to the city means it functions partly as a commuter suburb, with a mix of residential housing, local shops and small businesses while still retaining rural edges and easy access to nearby roads.
Historically the area developed from farming and small settlement into a community shaped by post‑war housing growth; today local schools, churches and sports clubs form important social hubs. The ward is notable for its strong neighbourhood identity and community activity, and economically many residents combine local employment with jobs in the wider Derry area, reflecting the blend of urban and rural influences.
