Ballykeel

The Ballykeel electoral ward sits within the Mid and East Antrim borough of Northern Ireland, in County Antrim. It centres on a largely residential estate associated with the nearby town of Ballymena and is represented on the borough council.

Mostly developed in the mid‑20th century as social housing, the ward combines terraces and semi‑detached homes with local shops, a primary school, community centre and playing fields. Many residents commute to employment in Ballymena and surrounding industrial areas, and the neighbourhood has experienced community‑led regeneration and active local clubs that help sustain a strong, local identity despite the urban challenges common to similar estates. The place name itself comes from the Irish Baile Caol, roughly meaning "narrow townland".
