Cookstown West

Cookstown West is an electoral ward covering the western side of the market town of Cookstown in the Mid Ulster district of Northern Ireland, within County Tyrone. It is largely residential, spilling out from the town’s famously wide main street into suburban streets and nearby countryside, with local shops, schools and parks serving a mixed community. Good road links connect the ward to surrounding towns and the rural hinterland, where agriculture still shapes the local economy.

The wider town has a strong historic identity as an 18th–19th century market and linen centre, and that heritage is visible in Georgian buildings and a compact civic core; the ward benefits from those cultural assets while hosting active community groups, sports clubs and local events. Economically it is supported by retail, public services and small-scale industry, and socially it sits within a diverse community where local history and contemporary development coexist.
