Mid and Upper Nithsdale is an electoral ward in Dumfries and Galloway in south‑west Scotland, stretching along the rural Nithsdale valley and the surrounding hills. The area is defined by the winding River Nith, a patchwork of mixed farmland, woodlands and upland pasture, and a scattering of small villages and farmsteads rather than any large urban centre.
The local economy is largely agricultural with significant forestry and a modest tourism and arts presence, while historic kirk ruins, estate houses and older lanes recall its roots in Dumfriesshire. Like many rural wards it faces challenges around transport and access to services, but it also has a strong sense of community, active local events and plenty of opportunities for outdoor activities such as walking and angling.
