Kinlochleven in Highland, Scotland sits at the eastern end of Loch Leven, tucked into a steep glen beneath the Mamores and within easy reach of Glencoe and Fort William. The surrounding mountains and high passes make it a magnet for hillwalkers, climbers and cyclists, and the village is a well‑used stop on the West Highland Way with views that include nearby Ben Nevis.
Originally built in the early 20th century as a hydro‑powered aluminium‑smelting settlement using water from the Blackwater Reservoir, Kinlochleven has reinvented itself since the smelting era and now leans on outdoor tourism and a strong community spirit. It hosts facilities such as the indoor climbing centre Ice Factor, mountain‑biking and walking trails, local events and an active mountain‑rescue presence, giving the village a lively social and economic life despite its small size.
