Beàrnaraigh Mhòr (Great Bernera) is a small island off the west coast of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides (Gaelic: Na h-Eileanan Siar), Scotland. Linked to Lewis by a causeway built in the mid‑20th century, it has a rugged coastline, sandy machair and sea‑bird rich cliffs looking over Loch Roag, making it a scenic spot for wildlife and coastal walks.
The island supports a small Gaelic‑speaking crofting community with a history of fishing and croft agriculture; its landscape is dotted with well‑preserved archaeological remains and blackhouse ruins that speak to occupation through Iron Age and Norse eras. Beàrnaraigh Mhòr is also remembered for nineteenth‑century crofting disputes over land rights, and today draws visitors interested in archaeology, community culture and Hebridean scenery.
