Sgìre nan Loch

Sgìre nan Loch sits in the Lochs area of the western islands, on the Isle of Lewis in Na h-Eileanan Siar (the Outer Hebrides). The ward is defined by a deeply indented coastline of sea lochs, machair strands and peatland, with a patchwork of crofting townships and small harbours that give the landscape a dispersed, rural character.

Life here is strongly Gaelic in language and culture, with traditions such as ceilidhs, local weaving and crofting still prominent alongside fishing and growing tourism. Historic layers from early Christian sites to Norse influences are visible in place-names and archaeology, and communities have a reputation for resilience, community-owned projects and practical efforts to sustain local services and the island economy.
