Eilean na Gobhail is a small, rather windswept islet off the coasts of the Na h-Eileanan Siar part of the Outer Hebrides, typical of the rocky skerries that fringe the larger islands. It is generally uninhabited and noted more for its seabird colonies and seal haul-outs than for settlement, sitting within a landscape of machair, tidal channels and sheltered bays that shape local marine life and navigation.
Like many Hebridean islets, Eilean na Gobhail has a cultural resonance for nearby crofting communities: historically it would have been used for summer grazing, taking seaweed for fertiliser and as a landmark in local fishing and folklore. Today it is appreciated for wildlife watching and as part of the living Gaelic landscape of the islands, valued by residents and visitors interested in nature and traditional island life.
