Chirnside is a compact village in the rural county of Berwickshire within the Scottish Borders of Scotland, sitting amid rolling farmland a few miles from the border town of Berwick-upon-Tweed in England. The surrounding countryside is characterised by gentle hills, farmed fields and country estates, giving the area a distinctly agricultural feel while still being within reasonable commuting distance of larger towns.
Historically the village grew up around its parish church and local estates and still shows traditional stone buildings and conservation-area features. Agriculture remains important to the local economy, but there’s a strong community life too - a village hall, primary school and pub play host to events and social activity that reflect the Borders’ mix of rural customs, history and cross‑border connections.
