Saltney is a parish on the Wales–England border in Flintshire, Wales, lying along the western bank of the River Dee just outside Chester and within easy reach of Wrexham. It developed in the 19th century around river crossings, rail links and light industry, and the built landscape still mixes terraced housing, industrial estates and pockets of riverside green space.
Saltney retains a strong cross‑border identity: many residents commute into Chester or Wrexham, while local life revolves around community clubs, grassroots football and small businesses. Recent years have seen modest regeneration of retail and industrial sites alongside efforts to preserve riverside walks and the area’s industrial heritage, with places such as Saltney Ferry reflecting its historic link to the Dee.
