Flintshire is a compact unitary authority on the north‑east coast of Wales, stretching from the industrial plain around Deeside to the uplands of the Clwydian Range and the tidal River Dee estuary. The area combines wildlife‑rich coastal marshes and estuary birdlife with rolling farmland and popular walking country around Moel Famau in the Clwydian Range and Dee Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and it sits close to the English city of Chester, making it well connected by road and rail for commuters.
Economically Flintshire blends heavy industry and high‑tech manufacturing-most notably the Airbus wing factory at Broughton and the longstanding Deeside industrial parks-with traditional market towns such as Flint, Mold, Buckley and Holywell. Its deep history is visible in 13th‑century Flint Castle and national treasures like the Bronze Age Mold Gold Cape, while places such as Hawarden Castle speak to later political and cultural life; socially it remains a bilingual, community‑centred county with a strong local identity.
