Caersws is a small village and community in rural Powys, Wales, set in the Severn valley with the River Severn running nearby and the rolling uplands of the Cambrian Mountains close at hand. It sits on the Cambrian rail corridor - served by the Cambrian Line - so despite its quiet, countryside feel it has decent road and rail links to larger centres such as Newtown and Llanidloes.
Historically the place is notable for Roman activity, with earthworks and finds from at least two Roman forts giving the village its "caer" (fort) name. Today the local economy revolves around agriculture, small businesses and a degree of commuting, while community life centres on the village hall, school and outdoor pursuits - walking, fishing and rural tourism are common attractions - and a typically bilingual Mid Wales social scene.
