Rhayader is an electoral ward centred on the market town in mid‑Wales, within the county of Powys. It sits on the banks of the River Wye and acts as a gateway to the nearby Elan Valley reservoirs, the dramatic late‑Victorian waterworks that still supply water to Birmingham and draw walkers and birdwatchers to the area.
The ward is largely rural in character, with an economy based on agriculture, outdoor tourism and local services; the town retains a strong sense of community with markets, small shops and regular local events. Historically a service and market centre for surrounding farms, it is represented on Powys County Council and combines Victorian infrastructure, riverside scenery and access to extensive upland walking in a compact, accessible area.
