Wixams is a planned new town on the south‑west edge of Bedford in Bedfordshire, developed from the early 2000s on former farmland. The layout is contemporary, centred around lakes, green corridors and community open space, and has been built out with a mix of housing, new primary schools and local facilities to serve a growing population.
Its position gives good road links to the A6 and A421 and makes commuting to Bedford, Milton Keynes and London feasible; a proposed railway station and other infrastructure improvements have been discussed as the settlement expands. Socially it has attracted many young families and commuters, and the emerging village centre and active community groups are shaping a distinctly modern suburban identity.
