Dunstable is a market town in Central Bedfordshire, England, sitting on the northern edge of the Chiltern Hills where the bright chalk of the Dunstable Downs slopes into low-lying farmland. The ancient track of the Icknield Way skirts the area and the Downs are a regional highlight, noted for kite-flying, sweeping views and rare chalk grassland that neighbours quarries around Totternhoe.
Historically a medieval market and priory settlement - remnants of Dunstable Priory and a long market tradition remain - the town today mixes retail parks, light industry and commuter links into nearby Luton and Luton Airport via the M1 corridor. Cultural life is bolstered by outdoor events on the Downs, local regeneration projects and a diverse community using leisure and arts facilities in and around the town centre.
