Darwen is a town and civil parish in the unitary borough of Blackburn with Darwen in Lancashire, sitting where the valley meets the West Pennine Moors. The River Darwen runs through the town and the skyline is dominated by the famous Darwen Tower on the moorland above, with surrounding reservoirs and hill walks that attract walkers and give the area a strong outdoor character.
Historically built around cotton mills and the Victorian textile industry, the town bears the terraces and industrial heritage of that era but has seen ongoing regeneration and good commuter links into nearby centres. Darwen retains a strong local identity - from community festivals and markets to its historic football club, Darwen FC, which played an important part in the early days of professional football - blending industrial history with countryside access and contemporary community life.
