Marton sits on the south‑eastern fringe of Blackpool, centred on the old village and bounded by the reedbeds and shallow water of Marton Mere, a notable local nature area. The locality moved from agricultural roots into a suburban neighbourhood as Blackpool expanded through the 19th and 20th centuries, so you still get a mix of older village streets, interwar and post‑war housing and patches of green space.
It is largely residential with local shops, schools and community facilities, and its economy links into Blackpool's wider tourist and service industries rather than heavy industry. The mere and nearby parks give the area a stronger environmental and leisure identity than some parts of the town, and community groups and sports clubs play a visible role in local life.
