Ramsbottom is a compact town in the Metropolitan Borough of Bury, Greater Manchester, sitting on the banks of the River Irwell at the edge of the West Pennine Moors. It is overlooked by Peel Tower on Holcombe Hill, and lies roughly ten miles north of Manchester, giving it a pleasing mix of moorland views and easy city access.
Historically a mill and textile centre, Ramsbottom has kept much of its Victorian character while shifting to an economy based on small independent shops, cafés, heritage tourism and commuter living. The preserved heritage railway, regular markets and a lively programme of arts and food events give the town a strong local identity and attract visitors from across the region.
